St Peter’s Primary school is dedicated to raising standards of PE across the school.

We are a School Games Mark GOLD Medalist

Research has proven a clear link between the health and wellbeing of students and their educational outcomes and this is at the forefront of our PE programme.

At St Peter’s C.E. Primary School we are committed to providing our pupils with up to 2 hours of high quality P.E. each week. All pupils are involved in our  physical exercise program during curriculum time, which includes a variety of activities designed to challenge and inspire the children. The curriculum  map ( see below) includes activities such as athletics, gymnastics, dance, invasion games, basketball, hockey, track and field events and swimming. We strongly believe that Physical Education is an important part of the curriculum as it helps develop pupils’ team work skills, physical ability and confidence, developing their capacity to use these skills to perform a range of activities.

As well as these curriculum activities, St Peter’s Primary School provides every child with the opportunity to take part in enrichment clubs after school,  covering a wide range of sports.

Again, research has shown that participation in extra-curricular activities also has a positive effect on attainment and every child is offered the opportunity to join an enrichment club.

Strong links, coupled with the continued hard work and effort invested in P.E. at St. Peter’s , allow the school to consistently improve the level and quality of sport on offer each year, both within the school day and at after school clubs.

In April 2015, the Government announced new funding for Physical Education (PE) and sport, to be used to improve the quality and range of sport in schools. (Sport premium funding. In September 2017 Sports Premium grant funding doubled to £16000 annual lump sum plus £10 per head.

In accordance with the DFE conditions of grant, (click here for dfe conditions of grant) at St. Peter’s we use the PE and sport premium to:

  • develop or add to the PE, physical activity and sport that our school provides
  • build capacity and capability within the school to ensure that improvements made now will benefit pupils joining the school in future years

Specifically we use this funding to support, challenge and inspire pupils and staff against the following key indicators as recommended by the DfE: (March 2021)

Key indicator 1; Increase the engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity

Key indicator 2; Raise the profile of PE and sport across the school as a tool for whole-school improvement.

Key indictor 3; Increase confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport.

Key indicator 4; Offer a broader experience of a range of sports and activities to all pupils.

Key indicator 5; Increase participation in competitive sport
