Equality Duty
The Equality Act 2010 introduced a Single Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED) that applies to all public bodies including maintained schools.
Under the terms of the Equality Act the school has a general duty to show that it has ‘due regard’ to:
- Eliminating unlawful discrimination, harassment, victimisation and any other conduct prohibited by the Act
- Advancing equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and people who do not share it
- Fostering good relations between people who share a protected characteristic and people who do not share it
To further the general duty the Government also introduced new specific duties which require schools to:
publish information to demonstrate how they are complying with the Public Sector Equality Duty, and
prepare and publish equality objectives.

Our long term overall school aims are summarised below.
As teachers we are often charged with the task of preparing our children for their future. At St. Peter’s we think a little differently, and rather than prepare our children for a future that is imposed upon them, we aim to give them the skills necessary to create the future that they perceive for themselves.
Today is the tomorrow of yesterday. By controlling today, we are creating the future of tomorrow.
Our vision is to develop our children to enable them to create the future they aspire for themselves, inspired by God, influenced by the teachings of Jesus and underpinned by Christian Values; rooted in The Bible and the word of God.
Our intention is that our children will “contribute to and prosper in society, bringing God’s plan for them to fruition.”
